The Tyne Tees Trek: Walking for Carers

On the 7th and 8th of June, The Care and Support Group will proudly launch our involvement in National Carers Week with a very special fundraising event.

We’re delighted to be working in partnership with Durham County Carers Support, a fantastic local charity providing vital support, advice, and guidance to around 24,000 unpaid carers across County Durham. Their work makes a real difference every day, and you can find out more about them at dccarers.org.

To mark the occasion, members of our team will be joining forces with colleagues from Durham County Carers Support to take on an ambitious two-day sponsored walk — The Tyne Tees Trek.

The challenge covers 32 miles over two days, starting at South Shields Lighthouse and following the coastline south. The route will take us through South Shields, Seaburn, Sunderland, Seaham, Horden, Easington Colliery, Crimdon, Hartlepool, and Seaton Carew, before finishing at North Gare, overlooking the mouth of the River Tees.

Along the way, there will undoubtedly be a mix of picnic stops, blisters, sore legs, flasks of tea, and perhaps the occasional well-earned pub stop — all in support of an incredibly important cause.

Closer to the event, we’ll be reaching out to ask for sponsorship, but if you’d like to get involved directly, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you can join us for a mile, a full day, or the entire trek, every step will help make a difference.

This event forms part of a wider programme of fundraising activities in support of our Charities of the Year for 2026:

  • Durham County Carers Support
  • Newcastle Carers Centre (based in Byker)

Together, we’re walking to raise awareness, show support, and say thank you to the carers who do so much for others — often without recognition.
